Orthodontics
Our orthodontic philosophy at the dental touch is to provide our clients with beautifully radiant smiles free of crooked or mal-aligned teeth without dental extractions. We use techniques aimed at providing more aesthetically pleasing faces rather than concentrating only on the teeth by taking facial and profile proportions into account.
To be able to achieve the best orthodontic outcomes, we recommend that the child be seen early, by age 2, to eliminate any potential problems which may make their teeth crooked or change their jaw shape. Habits which may make the jaws or teeth mal-aligned include dummy or thumb sucking after the age of 2, mouth breathing, tongue ties, trauma or early loss of baby teeth, lisps, tongue thrusts, swallowing problems or large tonsils or adenoids.
We can offer concerned mums and dads simple ways to eliminate potential problems which may lead to the child developing orthodontic complications.
Orthodontics for young children, called orthopaedics, may involve anything from maintaining space for erupting adult teeth, through to the use of functional or growth appliances such as expansion appliances, removable plates or partial braces. Children are very responsive to treatment at a young age, as their bones are still developing and are easier to guide into the correct alignment. Even though children who have orthopaedics treatment may still need braces, retainers or other appliances later in life, pre-treatment can often reduce treatment time and the severity of problems, including avoiding the need to remove healthy adult teeth in the future due to excessive crowding. The Dental Touch can also supply clear or colourful braces that
Orthodontic treatment for teenagers usually begins after all the adult teeth have come through, at around the ages of 11 to 13. Following an individual examination, we will discuss with you and your child the most appropriate corrective treatment, explaining the options available to achieve the best long-term result. Treatment will vary according to your child’s personal needs, although it most commonly involves fixed braces. Orthodontic treatment usually lasts from around six months to two years, during which time we will carefully monitor you child’s progress and oral care. Regular appointments will be required to adjust and maintain the braces.
These days, orthodontics doesn’t have to mean heavy, bulky, old-fashioned metal braces. Using modern techniques we can correct your tooth alignment problems, whether they’ve begun in childhood or occurred later in life as a result of missing teeth. Depending on your individual circumstance, your personalised treatment may take between 6 to 18 months. Following your examination, The Dental Touch team will be able to provide an accurate timeframe for successfully completing your orthodontic treatment.
There is a choice Did you know there are choices when it comes to which braces an orthodontist can use to straighten your teeth? And did you know that not all braces are the same? Before discussing with your orthodontist which braces are right for you, it helps to know what makes a great smile. Many patients think that a great smile is just straight teeth, but you’ll soon discover it is so much more.
What makes a great smile
A smile is often the first thing people notice. And while you may think you know a great smile when you see it, did you know that quite a number of factors go into making a perfect, beautiful smile?
Broad Smile with No “Dark Triangles” Full smiles display more teeth and have minimal dark space at the corners.
Upright Teeth Teeth should not tip inward or flare outward. The teeth should sit perfectly upright within the mouth.
Minimal Gingival Display An ideal smile shows minimal gingiva (“gums”).
When considering all of the attributes that make a great smile, it may seem impossible to achieve with just braces. But, thanks to the Damon System, it can be a reality.
Smile Arc When smiling, the bottom of the upper teeth should follow a curve that mirrors the curve of the bottom lip.
Facial Symmetry The teeth should evenly fill in the entire area of the smile but shouldn’t overwhelm your face.
Front abd Back Occlusion A great smile takes into account how all your teeth fit together for a perfect bite.
What makes the Damon System different?
It’s more than just a bracket.
- Tie-less braces that don’t need to be “tightened” and are gentle to the teeth and tissues.
- High-technology wires that move teeth quickly and require fewer adjustments than traditional braces.
- A clinically proven treatment approach that alignsteeth and enhances facial aesthetics.
Damon System braces use a passive slide mechanism to maintain wires within the bracket, allowing them to move more freely. This reduces friction so teeth move quickly and more comfortably.
Traditional braces use elastics or active clips that “bind” wires in place. Elastics and active clips used to hold the wire can act like parking brakes, resulting in friction and pressure, which can slow treatment and make it less comfortable.
Damon System braces are:
- Fast
- Comfortable
- Easy to keep clean
Clinically proven advantages
Greater patient satisfaction – Fewer adjustments – Shorter treatment times
